Looking forward by looking back

Have you ever had a deja vu moment? The kind that interrupts your day? The kind that you can't shake, that you know isn't just a 'feeling', the kind that calls out memories because it's a real thing? I'm right there, in the swirling middle of one. Stuck between what I feel, what I see, and what I remember. March something-th, 2007 I sat in my car in the parking lot of a large middle school, on the phone with my older brother. I poured bits of my uncertain heart out, with hesitation, because I didn't want to sound immature, afraid, or unprepared. He responded with thoughtful assurance, a few probing questions, and the great 'follow your heart' advice. I knew. I knew then how sure I was, about how unsure I was. I knew then what my heart wanted. I knew what God wanted. Did I listen? Well, you know how these stories go. Last night I sat in the car, on the way home, with my future behind the wheel, and my uncertainty behind me, on the phone with my ...

TWPICK Thursday, and I love running!

Image
Good day to you. We are here, on Thursday, and it ain't so bad. It's still very warm here, and we've not seen rain in a while. I'm still looking forward to fall, especially since it's football season! BOOMER SOONER!!!! I can't wait for the season to start, I love football. :) __________________________________________________________________________ R4G and deer meat overload Last night I sat on the couch and ate an entire bowl of cold deer meat that I had marinated in red wine vinegar. The plan was to make something asian-inspired this week. I ended up having it as a prerun snack. R4G met for week 10 lesson, and week 11 run. I didn't get the full 5 miles in, but we did over 4 miles. Since it was 8:45pm and dark, plus I was out of water, we called it quits for the night. Super proud of all of us for grinding it out after sunset with our flashlights and glow sticks. We had 46% humidity, and probably over 90 degrees still. Drenched, sore, and tired. I...

TWPICK Thursday (extra special), and we figured it out!

Image
Here at That Curl can RUN! I have my regular traditions, such as khaki Thursday. Every so often these traditions mix with other cool things, and make an extra special day. IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!!!! I'm trying really hard to be excited about it. You know in the past they weren't the best days. So far I saw my fave right after midnight, have gotten a heap of well wishes, and a few great cards in the mail. Thanks mom and dad, you totally know me. I do feel as though my mother's words of advice in her card are a bit cryptic, but as I'm supposed to be turning over a new leaf, I'm not going to read into it too much. ______________________________________________________________________ I can't lift my arms. This workout is kicking my butt! It's so amazing. You keep hanging in there, I'll share it with you shortly. _________________________________________________________________________  We figured out what 'mystery seeds' grow. Remember th...

Well, that's (not) fair Wednesday, new things are scary, and RAIN.

I hate technology.  I hate it before it can hate me.  It's stupid.  It makes me crazy.  I cried because I couldn't figure out my username and password to Spotify so I could log into it on my new digital doodad. I cried and yelled at A DEVICE! Gah.  I can't connect my tablet to my to my TV. I bought 2 adapters and nothing.  I can blog.  I can Spotify (finally). I can Pinterest.  I feel like Leah is yelling. Rant over. Sorry. :) _______________________________________________________________________ When fair is not fair I like to be happy. Making other people happy makes me happy, but that is hard sometimes. I'm circling back to that 'dying to oneself' issue we all have. Don't we just love to be justified in our feelings? When we are angry because someone made us angry, or when we are sad because someone made us sad; we want to point it out so they will understand, agree, and apologize. How often does that happen though? And,...

A head like that should hurt, kicking back, and doing all the things!!

I died last night. For about 2 hours I was super dead with my major headache induced nap. Eyemask, curtains drawn, snuggly blankie. Mmmm. I missed dinner...you know it's a bad night if I miss dinner. I did get a sweet awakening, and thank the Lord, my prayers were answered, my headache was gone. ________________________________________________________________________  Kicking back I didn't run, obvs, because of my weakened condition. Oh, stop, you didn't run either. We did go for a walk, and that probably did more good for me than a lonely, angry, painful run could ever do. There is something about the still of the evening, taking a stroll, and having a nice chat that can make your entire day turn on it's head. Yesterday was Monday, in every way. I needed a break. Thanks for the mini-vacation. Monday Morning Monday afternoon Monday evening As you can see, my Monday started and ended about the same. The pile...

Showing me some love!

Image
I don't post on weekends typically, because that is my down time. But because of all of you, I wanted to do a mini-post shout out to my readers. Ya'll have been showing me some major love lately. Just check out the number of views on a past post! It just got me smiling. Enjoy your weekend, I'll see you back here for a Monday recap!

#Facethefuschia, being the caregiver, and what to do this weekend?

Image
How much do you like BBQ? Let me tell you about some Okies from the FBC that would face the fuschia to get some Smokin' Joes. 1 1/2 hr drive, in blinding rain, in construction, on a major highway, in a church bus with a bad tire... 11 people, most under 21, on a mission from God to get the best BBQ around. Ok, maybe God didn't send us out for smoked chicken and brisket, but I bet if He tried it, he'd most definitely want us to go. It was a very thrilling trip. We all laughed a lot, maybe too much at times. Laughter can help you escape the reality of danger. Maybe we shouldn't have been so aloof. Oh well! Tra lah lah, tra lah lah. We made it to dinner, an hour ahead of closing (that's a whole different story) and ate until we were tired. We stopped by Falls Creek for a minute, and headed back to town. The return trip was less threatening, but no less stressful. Oh, the joys of group travel. ___________________________________________________________________...

Pinterest night, love languages, and look what he bought me!

Can we just vote to not get up in the mornings anymore? Today was the worst. I don't know what magical force was holding me to the mattress, but I just couldn't get going. Once I was up, dressed, and had braided my hair, I almost left without makeup! And I didn't wash my tanning spray off from last night. I'm a mess today. ______________________________________________________________________ Alone in my room So I spent most of last night on Pinterest. If you follow my boards, you saw the mass of pins I dumped on everyone. I don't usually browse the 'everything' board. This is why:  I was taking a mental vacation to Jackson Hole, WY. I got lost in the fields, dreaming of a distant cabin I found pictures of an amazing patio. One I could spend every summer night on.    I apparently got a bit deep into the motivational quotes.  And a few randoms. You know me, I can't resist this stupid fox.  I have pinn...

May the 4th be with you.

Do you know that it's Star Wars day? It is. You should know that. I know that's why you come to my blog, to find out these very important things. I'm calming down from a whirlwind weekend. I visited my parents Friday night, and my ex-in-laws Saturday. I burned up the highway to get back in time for cutey-cuteys 3rd birthday Saturday evening. Can I have a birthday like a 3 year old? A spread of snacks, tons of gifts that I'm SUPER excited about, lots of friends and family, and a water gun fight! Adults should get to have this much fun too. Saturday evening provided a relaxed vibe, which was very welcomed. Napping, and then sleeping. I think I liked that as much as cutey liked the Rescue Bots. Sunday brought a great worship service, the kind that has you unable to contain your thanks for His grace. The praise band had it TURNT UP yesterday. You know when you want to jump up on the pew, look at the congregation and say "how are you standing still? Do you hear w...

I Need To Breathe, you Need To Breathe, and I need to remind you it's KHAKI THURSDAY!

Image
HELLO!  I hope you're wearing your khakis. If not, you may have your blog reading rights revoked! On second thought, you might be my only reader, so...read on cargo shorts, or jeans, or maxi skirt, read on. Are you thankful for today yet? Take a moment and let the thought sink in. Are you smiling yet? I am. I am tired. I would rather be laying on my couch than working. I'm certain that playing in the sun would benefit me more right now than sitting under these fluorescent lights. I can think of a dozen things I'd rather be doing right now, but since I'm not doing those things, I'm going to rejoice in the right now. Won't you join me? ...there it is. Feel that smile? Yeah you do. On to the stuff! ________________________________________________________________________ Just Breathe Last night was the Need To Breathe concert in Grand Prairie. We had such a great time. Pit tickets gave us the opportunity to feel more involved in the experience. Stan...

Getting well, and doing all the things (because it's Tuesday!)

Image
No Burrito Zone!!! 3 of us (including yours truly) almost died (slight exaggeration) from something in the breakfast burritos we had Thursday at work. I won't go into detail, but imagine, if you will, the most painful and embarrassing things you can go through with other people watching...that happened. Emergency room visit in 2015, check! Now that I'm back at it, let's see what has happened, and talk about things.  Running is what you make it. If you're doing it, you're not doing it wrong. Unless you are doing it wrong. In that case, stop. Here is a little bug I dug out of my mouth on my most recent run. MMMMMM. When you can't eat real food, you can always have a shake, and watch someone else eat real food. That's just as fun, right? I couldn't eat yet, so guess where we went. Thanks. The chocolate shake was dreamy though. I'm now allowed to add soft foods and some harder to digest foods back in my diet. Last nig...
