Taco Tuesday, and doing all the things!

Image
I don't feel like having tacos today. Blah. What's wrong with me? What I feel like is running. Runnin' runnin' and runnin' runnin'.... I have to be in a swimsuit really soon and I don't feel ready. Tacos surely won't help either. Last night I had a sweet nap, a baked sweet potato (over sweet conversation with some of my favorite sweet people), a sweet soak in a lavender bath, and a sweet bedtime. Ahhhhhh..... I made it to the gym this morning before dawn for official week 2 of crazy workout. Pushups, lay down pushups, medicine ball squats, tricep dips, mountain climbers, bicycles, straight leg situps w/twist, and straight leg situps. It didn't seem all that difficult, and I did modify a tiny bit to keep from bending my toe ( you know, the SUP incident ), but man did we sweat! Our muscles just didn't seem to want to do anything. I haven't felt that worthless and lazy in a while....it was awesome!!!! _____________________________________...

TWPICK Thursday, sharing is caring, and a few littles.

Happy ThoseWhitePantsICallKhaki Thursday! I'm working from my second office today, so they don't know that my pants are the same pants I wear EVERY Thursday. Shhh, don't tell anyone. It's still raining, our spillway is about to spill over, and the sky is grey. I doubt I'll get to the lake this weekend. Alligators, snakes, and closed roads are killing the summer vibe. It's opening weekend of lake season and we're all super bummed. Trust me, 8 weeks from now we'll be in a drought. Stupid weather. _________________________________________________________________________ Sharing is Caring Did you know that the believers in Acts sold their belongings and shared the money with each other as needed? They used everything they had to make sure everyone was equal and taken care of. No hunger, no lack. Our world seems to be geared toward obtaining and maintaining, rather than sharing. We teach our children to share at a young age, but somew...

OKC Memorial Run to Remember

Image
I did it!! I ran my first half-marathon! Official time 3:13:55. This included a 14 minute stop at the port-a-potty and 5 2-minute stops. Runner friend was having trouble with her feet cramping so she had to adjust her shoes and stretch a bunch. We promised to not leave one another during our first half-marathon, so I would run on, then run back and get her. I only actually stopped when she had to take the potty break, as I knew it would get me too far ahead if I went on. Minus those delays, I would have finished around 2:49, averaging 12:50/mile. I am very happy with that thought. Let's review the experience. OKC Run to Remember is rated in the top 12 "must run" marathons by Runner's World. I would agree. There were so many great points that I don't think I'll be able to list them all. Here is a good overview though! General organization: The set up, signage, and announcements were top notch. At 5am when you're half awake and cold, it's nice to...

Marathon Prep and things that you can read or not. Your choice.

4/19/2015: 20th Anniversary of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building bombing in OKC, OK. 4/26/2015: Run to Remember in honor of the 20th Anniversary. The first Run to Remember was in 2001 with just under 5,000 participants. Today it has grown to over 25,000 runners/walkers. This will be my first entry. I am running the half. As I write this I am overcome with emotion. I received my confirmation email just moments ago with my bib number. I can't believe it. I'm in a marathon known around the world. A very public stage where I get to participate in a very personal experience. Giving my all to do what I love, for no one but myself. An opportunity to push through my own pain and doubt in an attempt to reach a finish line that, at this time, seems so very far away. I am scared and nervous. No doubt these are the same emotions that run through each person upon facing adversity, tragedy, and eventually the hope for a future from behind its shadows. We face giants every day. The ...

Your butt, in the future.

According to Google, my town moves at an estimated speed of 850 mph on the Earth's axis. If I run East for 3.1 miles in 33 mins, I'm actually running 28.86 miles, which is more than a full marathon. While discussing this with a friend, we agreed that if you face West while doing Brazil Butt Lift, your booty will reach the future sooner, thus being smaller, faster! It's science people. ...or maybe it's math.  ??? I ran my first 9 min mile last night. I only lasted an additional .5 miles. Speed work takes time.

Sweating and maybe moving!

Sunday my favorite BIL was in town! I found out he is a runner!!! Isn't that exciting? Someone else in the family as crazy concerned about fitness as me. We went for a quick run around my 3.6 loop. Here are my stats: Distance: 3.10miles Time: 34:12 Splits: 11:13, 11:03, 10:56 (negative splits!!!! YAY!!!!!) Average pace:11:01 I'm pretty pleased with that. BIL said he started running with a program from his gym, similar to c25k. I asked if he wanted to run that morning, and he said 'sure, but I run pretty far. I don't want to leave you behind'  I told him I run around 3 miles per day; he was floored. I guess 'pretty far' to him is less than 3 miles. Anyway, we went out that morning, he ran the full distance with me. I thought he would stick to his running plan. Oh! btw, he wears department store Nike's and doesn't stretch..... ? Well, we got done, and I thanked him for running with me and helping me push to get negative splits. That of c...

Speedy Skunk 5k

Image
Let me tell you, Saturday was an awesome day!!  I shot up North to stay with my parents Friday night, and got up waaaaaay early Saturday to head to NW Arkansas for my 5k. I didn't go to bed early enough, and didn't sleep well, so the race day was a bit stressful as I was afraid I would be too tired. By 7:30 a.m. it was already at 89 degrees and 100% humidity....YUCK. The 10k took off at 7:30 and we 5kers waited around for another half hour, sweating while doing nothing. The course started off down hill...down a BIG hill. This is deceiving as you can start off too fast and burn out too soon. I had to tell myself to go slow b/c it wasn't all downhill. We flattened out about 1/4 mile in, and crossed what would be our finish line. A slow incline gave way to another big hill, this time, UP hill. The remainder of the course to the turn around was flat and fast, but I stayed at a slow pace because I was sweating so bad. I have a fear of passing out, because I do get weak whe...

Run!!!

I have a 5k coming up. You know that. It's on 5/18, and I'm getting ready!    I was successful in running not sucking for 3 days in a row. 1.8 miles each time. I haven't timed it yet. I'm sure it's a slow pace, but the point is that I haven't walked. Just keep running, just keep running. I want to thank SR for an great idea in one of her recent posts. She mentioned that she regularly checks in on how she feels. This caught my attention and I think it's helping me. As I run, I just talk to myself about my feet: How is my heel? Am I landing mid-foot? About my legs: Are they cramping or just burning? About my breathing: Am I struggling for a real reason, or just b/c I'm not paying attention? Basically, and all over check-up. It takes my mind off the road, and helps me realize that I can make it, I can survive. If I walk my muscles will tighten and the walk home will be worse/harder than the run home. Here are a few after shots f...

5k,ka,ka,kaput....

Today i gave an effort. Not good. Not bad. Just, an. I'm pretty sure I've developed adult asthma based on the near black-out 50yd before the finish line. I PR'd but that isn't saying much: still +35min. Yeowza. I'm not a marathoner, yet. I don't compete with others, only myself. I let God carry me. I feel I'm doing all the right things, I'm just not there yet. That's ok. But disappointing nonetheless. You know. Happy running today. Good luck Ragnar/SoCal girls, and everyone around the globe.

Breakfast!

Image
Good morning to you! I hope you all got some yummy sleep last night. I wanted to share with you my recent breakfasts. Since I'm on a low/no acid diet per my doctor, I have had to switch to Almond Milk (blech) from Silk. I am not a fan. So, in order to get it down without making the nasty face, I had to concoct something that makes it tolerable. Mmmmmm, shake: Chocolate Almond milk Baby spinach Blueberries All natch PB (I am aware that if you are on a low acid diet you should stay away from chocolate. But really? Vanilla? I don't think so) The final product looks like pond scum, but tastes like fitness heaven! I'm sure I get really weird looks sucking this through a hot pink crazy straw, but I don't care. It fills me up all morning, and prepares me before the gym. It's quick and healthy and keeps me from eating girl scout cookies, although I'm keeping my radar out for that diet. Thin Mints must be healthy.... I have also be eating some glute...

Gah! Here's my plan.

Ok, ok. I know one of the cardinal rules of blogging is to stay on top of things. I need to post often so that I can be relateable and have things for all my fans to read. Well, I stink at that. If you've followed me for a while you know that I don't have the internet at home. I don't even know where our laptop is these days. I have to do everything from work or my phone. Mobile blogging is super frustrating btw. Here I am, Monday morning, and I'm trying to catch up for you. I did win the battle with my alarm clock this a.m. I made it to the gym before work, and struggled through 2.2 miles on the 'mill. Miserable. Horrible. Oh well right? I have a 5k this weekend so I have to get my butt in gear. Aside from running I'm doing an obstacle course training guide that I found on Pinterest, duh. Where else would I get any of my good ideas? Tough Mudder Training Routine 1. Run 3/4 mile (during the first set only) 2. Run at 4% incline for 3 minute intervals...

It has been a while!

Sorry blog fans! I didn't realize how long it had been since I last posted. I don't have the internet at home, and it can be time consuming to blog from my phone. I'll give you a quick no-frills update. I ran the Dam 5K on 11/17. I PR'd, which was good! Knocked 2 minutes off my last time. I finally got new shoes. They aren't the best, but they have tread and are actually made for running. And they fit. So I'm doing better there. My POTM goal will probably not be met this month, but I have already beat last months miles. I had Thanksgiving with my sister, her boyfriend, ORF, her fiance, and their super, super cute baby girl. Worked on Friday, had a wedding to go to on Saturday, went to the ER saturday night (more on that later, nothing serious), and church Sunday! Whew! Weekend over! I promise to get back and get you some pics of all that has gone on. Stay tuned! Oh yeah, and BOOMER SOONER!

Challenge!

Since I'm not a super blogger (yet), I'm having trouble adding a widget...or a gadget..? A thing. So head on over to www.runeatrepeat.com and join the Pile on the Miles challenge that she is offering up. As runners we need to encourage each other, and RER is top notch at this! Sign in, add your info, and run the challenge with me! ...and if you figure out how to get that darn gidget code to work for you, comment and let me know. Tonight, I'm headed back out on the road to get back into my training. How many miles are you running tonight?
